Where I’ve been [0]
Yikes! It’s been a full month since I last posted anything here. For friends and anyone else who may be interested, I’ve been rather busy teaching a six week program at the University of New Hampshire. It’s a summer residential course for teenagers from underprivileged backgrounds and it’s called Upward Bound. No, not Outward Bound (hiiking and kayaking and stuff). Upward Bound.
My course is called “Success Studies” and it’s a crash course in learning to use the mind effectively. I teach study skills, mnemonic strategies, and of course a little meditation.
It’s been a great summer and we’re now halfway through the last week of the program. Although I’ve generally enjoyed the teaching it’s made me a bit busier than I like to be and I’m looking forward to handing in my final student evaluations and being done with the program for the year. I’ve found it hard to leave my baby daughter at home on the days that I’m teaching and I’ve also been neglecting Wildmind — and this blog of course. And I’ve only been out in my kayak once this summer, which is rather shocking!
At some point I’d like to post the material I teach at UB online — I think there just aren’t enough systematic guides to study skills on the web. Then again, it’s easier to have those ideas than it is to find the time to implement them!
