Congratulations to Paul Krugman

Hearing at the weekend that Paul Krugman had won a Nobel Prize for economics was a real surprise — a bit like hearing that your dad is actually some kind of really cool, James Bond-style secret agent. I’ve been reading his columns in the New York Times now for several years and I’ve mentioned him a few times here. For a long time he and Nick Kristof were my favorite Times columnists. Those two are still in my top four for the enjoyability and informativeness of his writing, along with Frank Rich and Gail Collins. I knew he has a background in serious economics but I’d no idea it was that serious. Way to go, Paul!

Incidentally we had a great weekend away. I napped for an hour the first morning and then for three hours in the afternoon (along with Maia). Maia had a wonderful time. She loved the swimming pool, which sparked off her longest sentence to date, “Show me the water, mommy.” She was fascinated by and nervous of the animals in the petting zoo, and had multiple, and vastly enjoyable, trips on the little kiddy train at the fairground.

One Response to “Congratulations to Paul Krugman”

  1. Two things:

1.) This is the greatest sentence I’ve read in weeks: “Hearing at the weekend that Paul Krugman had won a Nobel Prize for economics was a real surprise — a bit like hearing that your dad is secretly some kind of really cool, James Bond-style secret agent.”

    2.) Maia is darling.
