Determined lady.. Congrats on determination yourself, I’m interested in my history but too lazy to persevere, and too many bastards!!
Love, Lesley
There’s a lot of illegitimacy in my family as well, but at least there are some branches I can trace back. In fact genetically I’m almost certainly not related to Catherine Winton at all. Her first son, Edward, married Elizabeth McColl, who already had a son at the time of their marriage. It’s vaguely possible that the son was Edward’s, but its very unlikely. But having adopted a child I’m keenly aware that genetics is a very small part of family.
I was just tidying up my notes on John Tragheim and put in a search to Google with his name and Coursland and up came a wonderful photograph of Catherine Winton! The other photos were equally delightful to view.
My husband James or Jim McGonigal is descended through the line of Catherine’s half sister Normina Winton, through his mother Isabella Haimes Nisbet Gordon who died fairly recently. Her father James Gordon was the son of Normina.Winton and George Strachan Gordon.
My Patrick’s People website contains the data I’ve researched minus people born 1909 or later. We’d love to hear from you. In the meantime may we download the photos for our own use?
Best wishes,
Mary McGonigal
